NSCDC OFFICER DIES IN THE LINE OF DUTY DURING ATTACK AT ILLEGAL MINING SITE IN KOROKPA VILLAGE

By DSC Abubakar M. R. Muti

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, regrets to announce the death of one of its personnel *ASCII Aminu Eshi* who paid the supreme price while carrying out his lawful duty in the fight against illegal mining activities in the State.

On Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026, at about 1400 hours, operatives of the NSCDC Niger Command were on a routine operational patrol at an illegal mining site located in Korokpa Village when they came under attack by suspected illegal miners and their collaborators.

Upon sighting the NSCDC personnel, the suspects launched a coordinated and unprovoked attack on the patrol team in an apparent attempt to resist lawful enforcement operations. The operatives promptly requested reinforcement to contain the situation and restore order.

During the reinforcement operation, one of the responding officers was fatally shot in the head by the assailants. The injured officer was immediately evacuated from the scene and rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel to save his life, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The Niger State Command condemns this heinous and senseless attack on its personnel in the strongest terms. The Command remains resolute in its constitutional mandate to protect the nation’s critical national assets and infrastructure, including the solid minerals sector, and will not be deterred by criminal elements.

The State Commandant, NSCDC Niger State Command *Comdt. Suberu Siyaka Aniviye,* on behalf of the Commandant General, management, officers and men of the Corps, extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer. He described the late officer as a courageous, dedicated, and patriotic personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of his fatherland.

The Command wishes to assure members of the public that efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with other security agencies, to apprehend all those responsible for this cowardly attack and ensure they are brought to justice.

The NSCDC also calls on residents to remain law-abiding and provide credible information that will assist security agencies in combating illegal mining and other criminal activities across the State.
