NIGERIAN ARMY FOILS TERRORIST PLAN AGAINST ROAD USERS
The suspected terrorist plot to attack road users with an improved explosive device ( IED) has been foiled by Troops, who discovered and safely disposed of it along the Maiduguri-Gamboru main supply route in Dikwa LGA of Borno state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on Lake Chad, the high-pressure plate IED was believed to have been planted by suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists to target military convoys and civilian motorists using the strategic highway.
” The device was discovered at about 5:31pm on Thursday, July 16 by troops of the 3 battalion (mechanised) and the 24 task force brigade during routine operations in Maula,” Zagazola declared.
Although, an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team was reported to have been immediately deployed to the scene and successfully rendered the device safe, allowing normal movement to resume along the route, commuters remained anxious for the rest of the day.
However, Nigerian troops have continued to intensify route clearance patrols and counter-IED operations on critical roads across the north-east to prevent terrorists from disrupting military logistics and endangering civilian lives.
