POLICE OFFICERS RESCUE A MEDICAL DOCTOR FROM MOB ATTACK

A medical doctor has been rescued from mob action by the officers from the Oyo State Police Command after a false kidnapping alarm in Ibadan.
The incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday around the 2nd Powerline Area, along Eleyele–Ido Road, after a distress call alerted police to an ongoing mob attack on a suspected kidnapper.
The Divisional Crime Officer of Eleyele Division along with other officers reportedly moved to the scene and rescued the victim, identified as Dr. Afolabi, from an angry crowd.
However, the Lexus RX 330 SUV of the medical Doctor was set ablaze before the arrival of the Police Officers.
According to the officers, two minors, aged 12 and 15 , were found inside the vehicle and later taken into protective custody, alongside with the doctor for investigation.
The victim Dr. Afolabi is believed to be a United States-based medical practitioner and not a kidnapper as widely alleged in viral social media reports.
“The two girls had been lawfully entrusted to him by Idowu Abimbola, who wanted them delivered to her own mother for domestic chores.” Investigation reveals

The woman reportedly confirmed the arrangement to the police, while the girls aligned with her account.
The misunderstanding according to the police reportedly began when the doctor attempted to pass through a checkpoint near The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and was stopped for routine inspection.
“The girls in his vehicle were reportedly seen in a distressed state, while the doctor’s inability to provide satisfactory answers and his attempt to leave the checkpoint further heightened Suspicion.”
The situation allegedly escalated when the girls could neither communicate effectively in English nor the local language, prompting bystanders to raise a false alarm of kidnapping.
This resulted to a mob chase and eventual assault on the doctor, who sustained serious injuries before being rescued by police operatives.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, condemned the mob action and the spread of unverified information, warning against jungle justice.
The CP. however urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands and to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
