KIDNAPPED KADUNA PRIEST REGAINS FREEDOM


Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye, of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Southern Kaduna who was abducted by kidnappers in February 2026.has regain his freedom.
The Catholic Diocese in a statement issued on May 12, 2026, by the diocesan chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, the Church confirmed that the priest regained his freedom after spending three months in captivity.
It will be recalled that Fr. Asuwaye was kidnapped on February 7, 2026, at his residence by suspected terrorists, an incident that sparked widespread concern among members of the Catholic community and residents of Southern Kaduna.
The Reverend Father was reportedly abducted alongside 10 parishioners from Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Karku, Kauru Local Government Area, on the same day.
According to the statement, the priest is now safe, receiving medical attention, and in stable condition.
“With profound gratitude to God and all who supported us, we announce the release of Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye from captivity after three months,” the statement read.
The Diocese expressed appreciation to Christians, religious leaders, and people of goodwill who offered prayers and support throughout the period of his captivity.
