NIGER GOVERNMENT CLARIFIES COMMISSIONER’S COMMENTS ON BORGU ATTACK, AFFIRMS RETURN OF NORMALCY.

The Niger State Government wishes to clarify recent media reports concerning comments made by the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Barrister Maurice Magaji, regarding the security incident that occurred in Pissa Community, Borgu Local Government Area.
The Government acknowledges that the community came under attack by armed bandits, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives and destruction of property. The incident remains deeply regrettable, and the Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the entire community.
Contrary to some media interpretations, the Commissioner was quoted out of context. His remarks were not intended to deny the occurrence of the bandit attack but to reassure the public that swift security intervention had brought the situation under control and that normalcy had since been restored in the affected area.
Following the attack, security agencies, working in collaboration with local authorities and community stakeholders, responded promptly to contain the situation, prevent further casualties and forestall the spread of criminal activities to neighbouring communities.
Security presence has also been reinforced in the area, while surveillance and intelligence-driven operations continue across vulnerable locations within the state.
The Commissioner emphasized that the Niger State Government remains resolute in its determination to confront all forms of criminality and will continue to support security agencies with the resources and coordination required to safeguard lives and property.
The Government urges members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and rely on verified information from official sources.
Niger State Government remains committed to the security and well-being of all residents and will continue to take proactive measures to ensure lasting peace across the state.
