MANY FEARED DEAD AS BOKO HARAM INVADES ADAMAWA COMMUNITY
At least 11 people have been killed and several others remain missing following an early morning invasion by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Zaranga village in the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The attackers stormed the rural community in the early hours of Monday, opening fire on fleeing residents and setting numerous houses ablaze.
A local source, speaking anonymously to PUNCH, confirmed that 11 bodies have been recovered so far, though the death toll is expected to rise.
Devastated survivors have recounted losing multiple family members in the onslaught.Joint search teams, comprising local residents and state security personnel, are currently combing nearby forests to locate missing villagers who fled for safety during the gunfire.
The incident has triggered fresh panic regarding the vulnerability of remote settlements in Adamawa State and heightened local anxiety over the response capacity of security forces in distant rural areas.
As of publication, the Adamawa State Police Command has not issued an official statement.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, did not respond to inquiries, leaving the total number of casualties and the exact scale of property damage yet to be independently verified.
