ABDUCTED NECO STAFF RESCUED BY JOINT TASK FORCE IN ZAMFARA STATE

A staff member of the National Examination Council ( NECO) Aliyu Mohammed, who was abducted by suspected bandits in Gummi LGA of Zamfara State, has been rescued by the police command in the State.
The victim, Mohammed, was reported to have been on an official assignment for the National Examinations Council (NECO) at the time of the incident on June 7.
According to a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, Mohammed had transported examination scripts from various secondary schools in Gummi LGA to Sokoto before he was abducted along the Gummi–Sokoto road.

The Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) deployed by Zamfara police command were able to recovered the NECO examination scripts and handed them over to Ashiru Umar, principal of Government Unity Secondary School, Gummi, for onward delivery to the appropriate office in Sokoto.
The violent crime response unit (VCRU) deployed from the Zamfara police command joined military personnel for reinforcements after intelligence revealed that armed bandits from Sokoto and Kebbi States had gathered in the forest to unleash a fresh attack.
The combined security team engaged the bandits in a gun battle at about 2:45am on July 8, forcing them to flee with heavy casualties ; subsequently, the abducted NECO official as well as other victims were rescued.
