REPORT OF  18 STUDENTS’ ABDUCTION IS  FALSE:- SOKOTO GOVT

The Sokoto State Government has dismissed reports alleging the abduction of 18 students from the Gamji College of Health Technology, confirming that no student from the institution was kidnapped.

The official clarification followed a report by Sahara Reporters which claimed that suspected terrorists had intercepted a chartered bus carrying 18 students from Sokoto to Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Sokoto Government House, Abubakar Bawa, declared the report entirely false, inaccurate, and capable of triggering unnecessary public anxiety.

To set the record straight, the government revealed that the incident actually involved a single individual, Halima Sokeni, who is a former student and graduate midwife from the Gamji College of Nursing Sciences (More Area), rather than a current student of the College of Health Technology.

Sokeni was traveling home on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when she and other passengers were reportedly abducted in Niger State.

Urging the public to disregard the false rumors, the state government reminded media organizations and journalists to strictly uphold professional ethics by thoroughly verifying security and mass abduction reports before publication to avoid spreading misleading information.
