SOKOTO BANDITS ATTACK FOILED; WEAPONS SEIZED BY POLICE

The Sokoto State Police Command has successfully foiled an attempted bandit attack on the Tsabre community in Isa Local Government Area, recovering two rocket launchers and various items left behind by the retreating criminals.
The assault began at approximately 1:00 AM on Friday, when a group of heavily armed men invaded the village and launched into sporadic gunfire, triggering widespread panic among the local residents.
The details of the operation were disclosed in a formal statement released on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Rufa’i.
According to the spokesperson, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Isa acted immediately upon receiving a distress call, mobilizing a specialized task force comprising tactical teams, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Violent Crime Response Unit to confront the invaders.
A fierce gun battle ensued as police operatives engaged the bandits, ultimately forcing the criminals to retreat under heavy fire.
“The tactical teams engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel that lasted for some time,” Rufa’i stated. “Due to the superior firepower and tactical positioning of the police operatives, the bandits were overpowered and forced to escape into the nearby forest with their casualties.”
Following the shootout, security forces combed the surrounding bushes, which led to the recovery of two rocket launchers and two empty AK-47 magazines.
In addition to the weaponry, police recovered a variety of personal effects abandoned by the fleeing gunmen, including a Techno keypad phone (without a battery), a flashlight, a military jungle hat, a sweater cap, a rain jacket, and five pairs of sandals.
The State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Shaffa, highly commended the officers for their bravery, tactical discipline, and rapid response during the high-stakes operation.
Reaffirming the command’s unwavering commitment to securing lives and property throughout Sokoto State, Commissioner Shaffa urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities immediately.
The Commissioner concluded with a critical appeal to the public, urging residents and medical personnel to promptly report individuals seeking treatment for suspected gunshot wounds, as security forces continue their manhunt for the injured fugitives in the forest.
