KEBBI TEACHERS JUBILATE OVER GOVERNMENT SALARY RAISE

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Zaki Sarki, confirmed that the governor has approved full sequential and consequential salary adjustments for all primary school educators.
In a historic move, Governor Idris also restored the long-abandoned headmasters and assistant headmasters responsibility allowances, which previous administrations had neglected for decades.
According to the NUT chairman, this milestone fulfills a vital promise made by Governor Idris. Having previously served as a teacher and as the National President of the NUT himself, the “teacher governor” has delivered on a long-awaited salary harmonization that primary school teachers have anticipated since the introduction of the new minimum wage.

Historically, primary school teachers in Kebbi State faced disparities, complaining that past ₦18,000 and ₦30,000 minimum wages were not correctly integrated into their pay structures compared to their secondary school counterparts.
To correct this, the current administration has aggressively scaled up teacher welfare, doubling the monthly primary school salary allocation from ₦586 million to over ₦1.2 billion and successfully implementing the ₦75,000 minimum wage.
The NUT highlighted several other landmark achievements under Governor Idris’s education revolution, including:
• Infrastructure development: The construction of over 200 new schools alongside the extensive renovation of existing facilities.
• Massive workforce expansion: The recruitment of 2,000 primary school teachers, 1,500 secondary school teachers, and 500 science teachers, as well as the formal absorption of more than 300 volunteer educators.
• Financial and professional security: Regular promotion updates for 2023, 2024, and 2025 (complete with promotion arrears), prompt clearance of 2024 and 2025 leave grants, and the settlement of backlogged gratuities and pensions.
• Empowerment schemes: The introduction of specialized car, motorcycle, and housing loan schemes, backed by sustained capacity building and training programs.
Comrade Zaki Sarki expressed confidence that these welfare packages will inspire the workforce to deliver high-quality instruction. He called on educators across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) to rededicate themselves to their duties and justify the state government’s investment. Meanwhile, teachers in Birnin Kebbi and other LGAs continue to celebrate the historic, teacher-friendly development.
