The Secretary to the Niger State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, has reiterated the commitment of the state government to improving the performance and operational efficiency of the Government Printing Press (GPP), an agency under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of Niger State.

The SSG gave the assurance during an official visit to the agency to inspect the renovation and rehabilitation works carried out on its complex.

Addressing members of staff, Alhaji Usman urged them to adopt a proactive approach to marketing the agency’s services by actively attracting printing jobs from government institutions, private organisations and other prospective clients.

He proposed that staff members who attract printing contracts from outside the agency should be entitled to a certain percentage of the proceeds generated from such jobs as an incentive to promote productivity, ensure sustainability and motivate staff to contribute meaningfully to the agency’s growth.

The SSG emphasised that the success of the Government Printing Press would depend largely on the commitment, dedication and collective efforts of its workforce.

He therefore charged the staff to demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing the need for them to justify not only the salaries they receive but also the confidence reposed in them by the state government.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs, ESV James T. Bake, who also oversees the Special Duties Department, explained that the renovation of the Government Printing Press complex was made possible through approval granted for the utilisation of proceeds generated from printing jobs executed for government organisation.

He noted that the improvement in the facility would enhance the agency’s appeal and position it to attract greater patronage from private individuals, corporate organisations and other prospective clients.

ESV Bake expressed optimism that further improvements could be achieved, including the procurement and installation of air-conditioning systems in the offices and the provision of other essential facilities to create a more conducive working environment and enhance operational efficiency.

He appreciated the SSG for his continued support, noting that the backing had contributed significantly to the progress recorded so far in efforts to reposition the agency.

The Permanent Secretary further disclosed that, since assuming oversight responsibilities for the Special Duties Department, he had initiated measures aimed at revitalising the state-owned Government Printing Press and restoring its capacity to deliver efficient, reliable and competitive printing services.

The ongoing efforts are expected to strengthen the agency’s operations, improve service delivery, attract more patronage and position the Government Printing Press for long-term sustainability.
