KANO APC CHIEFTAIN QUITS

In a significant blow to the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a prominent party chieftain and former Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, Engineer Mansur Ahmed, has officially resigned from the ruling party.
Ahmed, widely recognized as a close political ally of the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, formalized his exit through a resignation letter delivered to the APC chairman of his local Yakasai Ward, situated within the Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
This high-profile departure occurs just days after another major political figure in the state, Aminu Dabo—the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA)—simultaneously severed ties with the ruling APC.
Reflecting on his departure, Ahmed stated in his letter that the decision was reached after extensive deliberations with his political associates regarding the current state of affairs and internal dynamics within the APC.
The former commissioner explained that widespread concerns over the party’s direction prompted him to seek an alternative political platform, where he believes he can more effectively drive meaningful socioeconomic growth for both Kano State and Nigeria.
Ahmed further emphasized his desire to align with a political organization that prioritizes the core responsibilities of governance, specifically the protection of lives and property alongside the general welfare of ordinary citizens.
Concluding his statement, the veteran engineer expressed his gratitude to the leaders, stakeholders, and members of the APC, offering specific appreciation to his supporters in the Kano Municipal constituency for the opportunity to serve and foster the party’s initial growth.
An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Bradford in England, Ahmed has a long political history in Kano, having previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport under Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003.
Beyond his previous commissionership and a past run for the Kano State governorship ticket, the veteran engineer also notably served as the deputy coordinator for the Jonathan/Sambo Presidential Campaign Council in Kano State.
