EBONYI POLICE ARREST FAKE LAWYER AFTER 11 YEARS OF PRACTICE

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have arrested 40-year-old Ugwumba Francis Enyinnaya for allegedly parading himself and practicing as a legal practitioner for over 11 years.
The breakthrough followed a discreet investigation launched after a resident petitioned the command over a case of obtaining money under false pretences.
The petition detailed how the suspect allegedly defrauded Mr Chukwu David of ₦650,000 in March 2026. Enyinnaya reportedly claimed to be an experienced barrister and promised to use his legal standing to fast-track the official approval and processing for a street naming within the Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Upon his arrest, police interrogations shattered his decade-long facade when the suspect confessed that he possessed no formal legal qualifications.
A subsequent search of his residence turned up a mountain of incriminating evidence, including a fake Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal, a barrister’s wig and robe, a framed portrait of himself in full legal regalia, and forged Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree certificates from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
Operatives also recovered several fabricated court judgements, powers of attorney, and deeds of conveyance that he had drafted.
The Ebonyi State Police Command confirmed that the suspect has already been charged to court to face the full weight of the law.
Applauding the detectives for uncovering the long-running scam, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Urunwa Okafor, urged members of the public to remain vigilant.
She strongly advised individuals to thoroughly verify the credentials of anyone providing legal services before engaging them, and to immediately report any suspicious professional activities to the police.
