55,000 NIGER STATE FARMERS SET TO BENEFITS FROM RIVERHEAD COOPERATIVE CREDIT SCHEME

In a major move to transform agricultural productivity, the Riverhead Farmers Cooperative Society of Nigeria has officially launched an agricultural inputs credit scheme targeting over 55,000 farmers across Niger State.

While addressing journalists in the Bida Local Government Area, the President of the Riverhead Farmers Cooperative Society, Isah Ibrahim, explained that the scheme was designed to provide farmers with direct access to vital agricultural supplies.

Under the new arrangement, essential inputs such as high-quality fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides will be distributed to farmers on a credit basis to maximize their overall crop and livestock output.

According to Ibrahim, the cooperative stepped in after observing widespread frustration among local farmers due to a persistent lack of adequate government support.

To bridge this gap, Riverhead successfully approached the private sector to secure the necessary financial and material backing required to uplift rural farmers.

To ensure efficient distribution and maximum accountability, the cooperative has organized the participating farmers across various communities into distinct operational clusters.

Each cluster consists of exactly 55 farmers, making it easier to monitor progress, share knowledge, and manage credit repayments.

Ibrahim highlighted that Riverhead utilizes advanced “geo-cropping” strategies an integrated approach that encompasses crop farming, livestock production, and fisheries.

Backed by a robust consortium specializing in micro-credits, the initiative is structured to spark rapid, sustainable development across every facet of the state’s agricultural sector.

Concluding his address, the Riverhead chief urged farmers throughout Niger State to capitalize on this unique opportunity.

By leveraging the cooperative’s competitive advantage and private-sector funding, local farmers can successfully expand their operations, secure their livelihoods, and significantly contribute to food security in the region.
