NIGERIAN TROOP ARRESTED SUSPECTED ISIS-LINKED TERRORIST IN BORNO

The Nigerian  troops of Operation Hadin Kai  arrested a Moroccan national suspected of being an  ISIS – linked Arab terrorist, during intensified offensive operations following a failed ISWAP attack on Cross Kauwa in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The suspect was reportedly  captured on Monday during follow-up operations. After fleeing the battlefield, they tracked  into Abadam Local Government Area near the Lake Chad Islands Corridor, LCI.

Although, the suspect was said to have been earlier identified through forensic analysis conducted jointly with international partners using video footage recovered from a Sony camcorder seized during the Cross Kauwa operation where the terrorist attempted to overrun a military position, official charges have only recently been filed.

However, the arrest is seen as the right step in the right direction towards a breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle ISWAP’s foreign support network, and it further reinforces intelligence assessments indicating the involvement of foreign nationals within the terrorist group’s ranks.

Military authorities said additional details about the suspect and the outcome of the investigation will be released as interrogations progress and operational considerations permit.
