SON OF FORMER APC NATIONAL CHAIRMAN DEFECTS TO NDC

The eldest son of former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, has joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and obtained the party’s nomination form to contest for Dawakin Tofa/ Tofa/ Rimini Gado Federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 general election.

Abdulaziz’s decision is presently stirring political conversations in Kano, especially among associates of the Kwankwasiyya political movement led by former Kano governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

A viral video circulating online showed Abdulaziz, the Son of former Chairman of APC, in a meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form.

However during the meeting, he was reported to have briefed the former governor on his political ambition and preparations for the contest.

This recent development, the political analyst believes, marks another dramatic twist in the prolonged political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, whose once -cherished relationship collapsed years ago after both men emerged as opposing power blocs in Kano politics.

Though, Abdulaziz has remained politically distant from his father’s camp for years and has openly identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

It will be recalled that , Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, Abdulaziz younger brother, contested for the same House of Representative Seat under the APC in the 2023 general election. He lost to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Kwankwasiyya candidate despite the influence wielded by Ganduje as Kano governor at the time.

This political observer believes ” the growing strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement in parts of the state has been further underscored, which will likely determine the outcome of 2027 general election in Kano State.
