IDRIS URGES APC TO ZONE GURARA, SULEJA AND TAFA CONSTITUENCY TICKET TO GURARA

Political stakeholders in Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State have urged the National and State Working Committees of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives seat in the 2027 general elections to Gurara Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the stakeholders, Hon. Abdullahi Idris, made the call while speaking with journalists, emphasizing the need to uphold the principle of zoning in selecting candidates for the constituency. He noted that neglecting zoning arrangements contributed to the APC’s defeat in the 2023 general elections.
Idris recalled that at the national level, Nigeria has long maintained an unwritten but respected principle of power rotation between the North and South, typically within an eight-year cycle. According to him, power has never been concentrated in one region for twelve consecutive years, a tradition that promotes inclusiveness and balance.
He argued that the same spirit should guide political decisions within Gurara, Suleja, and Tafa Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections. He pointed out that historical records since 1999 show that Suleja Local Government Area has held the federal constituency seat for about 20 years, Tafa for eight years, while Gurara has never had the opportunity.

Idris warned that zoning the ticket again to Suleja could deepen divisions, trigger protest votes, and weaken the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections. He stressed that, in the interest of unity and electoral success, the seat should rotate to Gurara Local Government Area.
He also highlighted the qualities of Hon. Haruna Abubakar Arafat Magaji, describing him as a unifying figure capable of stabilizing and repositioning the constituency for progress if given the opportunity to serve.
“Hon. Arafat is the kind of leader the federal constituency needs at this critical time to move forward,” Idris said.
