NEW COMMANDANT TAKES CHARGE OF NSCDC NIGER COMMAND
Commandant Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara has officially assumed duty as the new leader of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Niger State Command. He takes over from Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, who was suspended alongside 21 other officers following the tragic deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the command’s custody on Thursday.
The transition comes during a period of immense public outrage and intense scrutiny for the state command. In a statement issued on Saturday by the Command Spokesperson, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, Commandant Kabara acknowledged the sensitive environment into which he is stepping and expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident.
“At a moment like this, beyond arrests, investigations, enforcement, and the fight against illegal mining, we must remember one fundamental truth: every human life matters,” Kabara said during his maiden address. “The loss of any human life is painful, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families who are mourning at this difficult time.”
Commandant Kabara extended his heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and prayed that Almighty Allah forgives their shortcomings and grants them eternal rest.
While reaffirming the corps’ unwavering commitment to its statutory duties specifically regulating the state’s mining sector and enforcing the law Kabara firmly emphasized that operational enforcement must never come at the expense of human dignity.
He asserted that protecting society and upholding the safety, welfare, and fundamental rights of suspects in custody are codependent responsibilities that the command will strictly observe moving forward.
