NIGER 2027: ABARA EMERGES AS NRM GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE
The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has officially settled on Alhaji Mohammed Abara as its consensus governorship candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election in Niger State.
Abara emerged as the party’s choice following a unanimous affirmation by delegates from across the state via a voice vote.
The primary election, held at the Yisapati Conference Hall in Tunga, Minna, was closely monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in strict compliance with the Electoral Act.
This development follows the formal withdrawal of the previously recognized candidate, Deacon Gideon Gana, from the gubernatorial race.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation, Abara pledged to run a people-oriented government dedicated to finding practical political solutions to the challenges facing Niger State. He emphasized that his campaign would strictly focus on issue-based politics.
His primary agenda will target critical sectors, including security, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, improved power supply, industrialization, and an agricultural revolution across the state.
While expressing his gratitude to the party leadership and delegates for the confidence reposed in him, Abara described the consensus process as a clear demonstration of unity and political maturity within the Niger State chapter of the NRM.
In a media interview immediately after the primaries, the NRM State Vice Chairman, Mohammed Shehu Auna, stated that the party is determined to field formidable candidates for all elective positions.
He expressed confidence that the NRM is well-positioned to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and other rivals to rewrite the development narrative of Niger State and Nigeria at large.Also speaking, the Legal Adviser of the party, Jacob Yisapati, urged Nigerians to remain prayerful and steadfast. He expressed strong optimism that the NRM has what it takes to win both the presidential and the Niger State governorship elections.
The legal adviser confidently charged Abara to begin preparing his inauguration speech, asserting that divine support would guide him to victory.
He nonetheless stressed that absolute unity among party members remains the most critical ingredient for success as they approach the 2027 general elections.
The expanded stakeholders’ meeting concluded with attendance from INEC representatives, the full complement of the NRM State Working Committee, and the newly affirmed governorship candidate.
