VOTE NAMI 2027: THE SOLUTION TO NIGER’S TERTIARY INSTITUTION SHUTDOWNS

The total shutdown of state-owned tertiary institutions in Niger State, resulting from a strike embarked upon by the Committee of Unions in Niger State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (CUNOTI), has been described as an unfortunate situation that shouldn’t have occurred under a serious administration.

Speaking during a recent chat with journalists, the Niger State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate, Dahir Danazumi Abdul, stated that any reasonable state government prioritizing a developmental agenda must invest heavily in the education sector, look after the welfare of civil servants within the sector, and establish sound funding structures.

While condemning the strike due to the severe setbacks it inflicts on students and the state’s educational progress, Abdul questioned why it has been so difficult for the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago administration to pay the workers before they resorted to industrial action, especially given the huge allocations the state receives from the Federation Account.

“It is quite unfortunate that the Bago administration has been prioritizing uncompleted white elephant projects scattered across the state and mismanaging state resources over crucial investments in the education sector and the welfare of civil servants, which ultimately led to the recent strike by CUNOTI and the subsequent total shutdown of tertiary education in the state,” Abdul stated.

He further noted, “Before now, it was the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) University strike issue, alongside attempts to claim ownership of structures in federal institution within the state that they never built. Today, we are witnessing a sweeping strike action across all state-owned tertiary institutions under CUNOTI.”

The PDP candidate pointed out that no meaningful development can be achieved in Niger State if education continues to suffer setbacks due to funding starvation, as has been witnessed under the Bago administration over the last three years.

Abdul assured members of CUNOTI and students across Niger State that the PDP governorship candidate, Mohammed Mamman Nami, has the capacity to address all the challenges facing the development of the state’s education sector, urging them to vote for him massively.

He described Mohammed Mamman Nami as a leader who fully understands the vital role a developed educational system plays in nation-building.

Abdul emphasized that education serves as the bedrock of all developmental progress, stressing that Nami’s master blueprint is designed to align the education sector directly with industrialization.

He appealed to Nigerlites to massively support the gubernatorial ambition of Mohammed Mamman Nami to secure a brighter future for the state.

“An administration that has done nothing to improve the education sector in close to four years will do nothing if re-elected. Let’s vote for Mohammed Mamman Nami’s candidature during the 2027 general election,” Abdul eclared.
