DANGOTE ENERGIES POWER SECTOR WITH $10B INVESTMENT

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and Africa’s wealthiest individual, has announced an ambitious blueprint to invest over $10 billion into the African power sector.
The massive capital injection aims to directly combat the continent’s chronic electricity deficit and spark a wave of industrialization.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera uploaded on Monday, Dangote emphasized that access to dependable electricity is the fundamental catalyst required for economic expansion and sustainable development across African nations.
The billionaire industrialist revealed that the Dangote Group is prepared to reshuffle its corporate portfolio to prioritize energy infrastructure.
This restructuring could include halting planned initiatives in other heavy industries to unlock immediate liquidity.”We want to invest over $10 billion alone in power,” Dangote stated.
“There is one or two businesses that we might cancel, like steel, and we will put in the money.”Dangote projects that this focused investment strategy will help drive a monumental economic transformation across the continent within the next three to four years.
Addressing the severe infrastructure gaps holding the continent back, Dangote labeled Africa’s energy poverty an unacceptable reality.
He noted that more than 600 million Africans currently live without access to electricity.”It is something that we Africans should not really allow,” he urged.
“Over 600 million of our people to remain in darkness.”Beyond the economic fallout, Dangote tied power grid reliability directly to political accountability and governance.
He argued that if political leaders focused their tenures on solving fundamental infrastructure crises like electricity, their achievements would naturally secure public trust.
“If politicians work hard, they have a plan, when you deliver power, you don’t need to go for campaign when you’re going for the election,” Dangote concluded, reinforcing that electricity remains the foundational cornerstone for both industrial viability and societal progress.
